President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has prepared a list of weapons and essentials that Kyiv needs. This list will be considered by a group of US Republican congressmen who visited the Ukrainian capital, CNN reports citing a source.
Zelensky held a meeting with the head of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael McCall, and four other members of the House. At the meeting, the Ukrainian leader said that Ukraine needs F-16 fighter jets and longer-range missiles.
The meeting was held on the anniversary of the start of the Russian military operation. The channel notes that it became an example of dissent in the ranks of the Republicans, as it took place against the backdrop of statements by some congressmen from the Republican Party about the need to reduce the amount of weapons supplied to Ukraine.
In a congressional session after the meeting, McCall said that the Ukrainian authorities intend to “hold on for as long as it takes,” and in the United States, “there is strong bipartisan support to give Ukraine everything it needs to win.”
Obtaining long-range weapons and fighter jets has become a priority for Ukraine after the announced deliveries of Western tanks. The Ukrainian leader promised to obtain them, and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry guaranteed that Western fighters would not be used against targets in Russia. However, US President Joe Biden ruled out the possibility of supplying fighters at the moment, arguing that for now the Armed Forces of Ukraine need “other weapons.”
