German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed dissatisfaction with the position of the allies on the supply of tanks to Ukraine, reports the Financial Times.
At the Munich Security Conference, a journalist asked Scholz if he had to convince other countries to provide heavy armor to Ukraine. “This is a question I must ask others, especially those who have so strongly urged [меня] act,” the German chancellor replied.
The publication notes that for several months Scholz faced pressure from other countries regarding the supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine. However, in the weeks after Berlin agreed to send 14 Leopard tanks, few of the Allies had transferred any of their own stocks of these tanks. In this regard, at the conference, Scholz urged “all those who can supply main battle tanks to really do it.” He also stressed that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock would use the Munich Conference to encourage the Allies to meet their tank commitments.
Earlier, the media reported on the refusal of the authorities of the Netherlands and Denmark to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Thus, Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte promised to supply 18 Leopard 2s to the country, but now The Hague, in response to a request from the publication, said that the transfer of tanks to Kiev is no longer considered. Denmark, which has 44 Leopards of the most modern version – 2A7, will also not transfer tanks to Ukraine. Finland, which has 200 Leopard 2 tanks, can also refuse deliveries until it joins NATO.
