On Monday, February 20, at 18:00, the mArs art space (3, Marsovo Pole) will host the opening of a personal exposition of St. Petersburg photographer Elena Muralova “Silence. Venice”. The exhibition will be held as part of the New Wanderers project and will be available for two weeks.
The exhibition in the mArs art space is the first stage of Elena Muralova’s large-scale photo project “Silence”, dedicated to her two favorite cities, Venice and St. Petersburg. By visiting the gallery on the Champ de Mars, viewers will be able to see thirty works, poetic and beautiful in their mystery. Elena Muralova captured images that are far from the gaze of a bored tourist. Her work is the result of an intimate conversation between the photographer and the heart and soul of Venice, reluctant to reveal its secrets.

“I know that a city, like a person, has a soul, but just as a person does not open his heart to everyone, so the city is closed and cold. We can see the brilliance of facades, front avenues, the beauty of canals, rivers, landscapes or brilliant prospects… But the city is made alive by its soul – intimacy, genius loci, silence that falls on the heart after long wanderings along the pavements in an attempt to see one’s own, not well-known, Muralova is convinced. “And suddenly, as if taking pity on you, a magical curtain opens, and the city lets you into its secrets, not for long. And you must have time to understand that this is the moment of revelation, and with the help of such a soulless machine as a camera, convey what you have been entrusted with. This is not an easy task, but what else should a photographer be interested in? Hardly tourist pictures. The times are connected. It is for this that I go to other cities, wander through autumn parks, try to ask questions, try to speak, wait for an answer.
According to her, the eternal city is always a hero, only the characters change. Just today Juliet with a mobile phone and sneakers, and in the XVI century she ran out in a dress embroidered with thin gold threads …

“I do not have a goal to create wonderful works of art or to impress someone, rather, I want to convey what my soul lacks, fill it, and in silence with gratitude convey my attitude to what I saw. If I can do it even a little, I’m happy.”
Elena Muralova is a photographer, a member of the SPbTSKh (IFA). Graduated from Leningrad State Institute of Cinematography and Photography (M.S. Litvyakov’s workshop).
