The Kalininsky District Court of St. Petersburg has appointed an expert examination in a criminal case against former priest Ioann Kurmoyarov, who is accused of publicly disseminating deliberately false information about the use of the RF Armed Forces.
According to the United Press Service of the Courts of St. Petersburg, Kurmoyarov is charged with 63 episodes of posting false information on the Web from February 24, 2022 to June 6 of the same year.
At the request of the prosecution, the court ordered a forensic linguistic examination, since only five records were subjected to examination during the preliminary investigation.
The court put 7 questions before the experts. The examination will be carried out at St. Petersburg State University.
Kurmoyarov is accused of posting several videos with false information about the use of the Russian Armed Forces on various social networks, including the Orthodox Virtual Parish YouTube channel. “Kurmoyarov suggested declaring an action of civil disobedience, tried to talk about what awaits the Russian army next, exposed “the lies of the Kremlin propaganda: where have you been all these 8 years?” an account to collect donations for those who want to “believe wisely,” ”the United Press Service of the Courts of St. Petersburg said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Kurmoyarov, when he was still a priest of the Vinnitsa diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, became the object of persecution by the SBU, which opened an administrative case because of a post on his social media page with the image of the St. George ribbon. Already in Russia, Kurmoyarov was defrocked due to criticism of the main temple of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, which he compared on social networks with a pagan temple. He was arrested in early June last year. The reason for initiating a criminal case was a video recording in which the former hieromonk talks about a military special operation in Ukraine.
