American balloons have flown over China illegally more than ten times since January 1, 2023, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a media briefing in Beijing.

According to the Chinese newspaper The Paper, the diplomat stressed that the Chinese authorities “reserve the right to take the necessary measures in connection with relevant incidents.”

On the eve of the Chinese authorities announced their intention to shoot down an unidentified object flying near the port city of Qingdao, where a large naval base of the People’s Liberation Army of China is located. At the briefing, Wang Wenbin avoided a question that related to this topic.

Recall that after February 4, when the US military shot down a Chinese balloon off the coast of South Carolina, three more objects were shot down over North America. Their state affiliation was not officially named. The military said the objects flew over military infrastructure and posed a threat due to “reconnaissance capabilities” or interference with civil aviation.
