The World Bank announced the allocation of $ 1.78 billion to provide relief and relief after the devastating earthquake in southern Turkey. This is stated in a message posted on the WB website.

In turn, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said that the death toll from a powerful earthquake has risen to 17,674 people, Anadolu agency writes.

“17,674 dead, 72,879 injured,” the agency quoted the Turkish vice president as saying.

Recall that on February 6, two devastating earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 occurred in the Pazardzhik region in Kahramanmarash and a magnitude of 7.6 in the Elbistan region.

After the earthquakes, another 1330 aftershocks were recorded. Tremors also led to destruction in Syria, where the death toll exceeded 1.3 thousand people.

Turkey has declared seven days of mourning.
