In St. Petersburg, a state contract was signed for the construction of the first stage of the Southern Latitudinal Mainline. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
Two sections of the new highway will be built – from the Peterburgskoye Highway to the interchange with the Podbelskoye Highway and from Saritskaya Street to the interchange with the Peterburgskoye Highway. It also provides for the reconstruction of the Podbelsky highway. “In the future, the Southern Latitudinal Highway will connect Volkhonskoye Highway, the M-11 Neva Highway, Moskovskoye Highway, Sovetsky Prospekt, as well as the R-21 Kola Federal Highway, and will create an alternate ring road in this section,” the city administration said. .
The head of the city, Alexander Beglov, noted that the implementation of the project will unload exits from the city in a southerly direction, connect major federal highways bypassing residential areas, and reduce transit traffic flows through Pushkin and Pavlovsk.
As part of the first stage, it is planned to build three multi-level interchanges and three overpasses. They will go through the railway tracks of the Baltic and Vitebsk directions and in the alignment of the Petersburg highway. In total, it is planned to build and reconstruct 7 kilometers of roads. Bicycle paths 2.5 meters wide, seven traffic lights and five stops are also provided.
