About 90 hours after meeting buried under rubblethe emergency teams have managed to free at dawn a father and his five year old daughter in Hatay, Turkey. An almost miraculous rescue that comes days after several high-intensity tremors hit the country, near the Syrian border.
The Turkish state news agency, Anatolia, has indicated that rescuers have been working many hours to find the two people, who were trapped in a collapsed building in the city of Odabasi. After taking them out, amidst applause, and giving them first aid, father and daughter have been transferred to a hospital.
Just an hour before, the emergency services found in Kahramanmaras a a seven year old boy and his fatherwhich were freed from the rubble after 89 hours trappedaccording to the aforementioned agency.
The standard time that a person can survive without eating or drinking in disasters like this is from 72 hours. After that time, gets considerably complicated the work of emergency services to rescue people alive from under the rubble.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), under the Turkish Ministry of the Interior, has indicated that close to 120,000 search and rescue team members -including international teams and NGOs- are working in the affected areas. Large quantities of rescue equipment, food, basic necessities and psychosocial support groups.
