The National Assembly, this February 9, plans to install five councilors of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS), after the dismissal of the seven main ones resolved by the Constitutional Court.
As soon as the new CPCCS meets, it must elect a president and vice president, and later call a session to elect one of the three shortlisted by the National Court of Justice to designate as a member and president of the Council of the Judiciary, if not they would not comply with the judgment of the Constitutional Court.
The short list sent by the National Court of Justice is made up of Wilman Gabriel Terán Carrillo, Mercedes Johana Caicedo Aldaz and Luis Antonio Rivera Velasco.
The swearing in of the new CPCCS councilors is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., when plenary session no. following:
- Graciela Viviana Mora Ramirez
- Monika Mariuxi Moreira Morán
- Carlos Figueroa Figueroa
- Aland Molestina Malta
- Teddy Tama Aguirre
Previously, the legislature installed Gina Aguilar and Olindo Nastacuaz, with them the plenary session of the CPCCS could be installed.
Constitutional Court dismissed the seven members of the Citizen Participation Council for failing to comply with one of its sentences
On January 23, the Constitutional Court published ruling 1219-2022-EP, through which it resolved to dismiss the seven councilors of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control: Hernán Stalin Ulloa Ordóñez, María Fernanda Rivadeneira Cuzco, Sofía Yvette Almeida Fuentes , Francisco Lorenzo Bravo Macías, Juan Javier Dávalos Benítez, Graciela Ibeth Estupiñán Gómez and David Alejandro Rosero Minda, for failing to comply with one of their sentences by not appointing the member and president of the Council of the Judiciary of the fourth list that the National Court of Justice.
Among the pending processes that the CPCCS has is knowing the consultations of the citizen commission for the selection of the contest to designate the highest authority of the General Comptroller of the State and the Public Defender’s Office.
In addition, the new council must approve the call for an opposition contest and merits for the renewal of the National Electoral Council (CNE). (YO)
