Samanta Calero Mendoza and her husband, Wilter Borja, have been missing since early Wednesday morning.

At the moment, the family and acquaintances are waiting for answers about their location and fear that they have been forced to leave their house violently, because the doors are damaged in the place where they lived.

Roberto Menéndez, political chief of the Olmedo canton, told Diario EL UNIVERSO that the disappearance of the couple allegedly occurred around 04:00 this Wednesday.

The disappearance of the couple occurred in a family farm located in the La Primavera compound, belonging to the Sixto Durán-Ballén parish of the 24 de Mayo canton, and the loss of both was already reported to the National Police.

Calero was elected last Sunday, according to the projections of the National Electoral Council, as one of the new councilors of the Olmedo canton, where she is from. The woman, a candidate for the Patriotic Society party, is pregnant.

“The version we have so far is unofficial, their workers (of a missing couple) indicate that the bosses did not come down or answer when they knocked on the door, and then they realized that the door was damaged,” Menéndez said.

The workers managed to enter the house and realized that the bedroom door was also damaged, but suspiciously the cars were there, but the couple was not there, and they do not answer the phones and their whereabouts are not known.

The authority indicated that the family presumes that the couple has been kidnapped, and that until 12:30 this Wednesday there was no information on the whereabouts of Calero and her husband.

At the moment, the National Police has not issued any statement regarding the disappearance of this couple.

In a publication through social networks by the Díaz-Mieles criminal legal consortium, the police command in Manabí, the national government and other instances are required to find the whereabouts of Calero and Borja.

“The people need security in an Ecuador where crime has persistently damaged, harmed, and taken the lives of citizens,” the statement from the legal consortium describes. (YO)
