With the help of artificial intelligence, experts were able to identify the author of a previously unknown play that was stored in the National Library of Spain. It turned out to be the playwright Lope de Vega, who was a representative of the golden age of Spain.

The Guardian writes that 1,300 plays were previously digitized, mostly from the collection of the National Library of Spain, the authors of which remained unidentified or were erroneously identified. Then, using the Stylo program, the texts were correlated with the themes of the plays, which were contained in the database of the Etso project.

The analysis revealed textual matches between the play La francesa Laura (“The Frenchwoman Laura”), the author of which was unknown, and works by Lope de Vega. Subsequently, the conclusions made on the basis of the work of artificial intelligence were confirmed by traditional text analysis.

Lope de Vega wrote hundreds of plays, including “Dog in the Manger”, “Star of Seville”, “Dance Teacher”.
