The criminal case of fraud on an especially large scale against the 81-year-old scientific director of the Institute of Laser Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Academician Sergey Bagaev was closed. As the lawyer of the academician Gennady Shishebarov told RIA Novosti, the decision was made due to the lack of corpus delicti.
The Investigative Committee also explained Bagaev’s right to rehabilitation, the lawyer added, specifying that the right to rehabilitation includes an apology on behalf of the state, reimbursement of expenses incurred, and also, according to Bagaev’s claim in a civil procedure, he can be compensated for moral harm.
Recall that a criminal case against academician Bagaev was opened in February 2022. A source in the department of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that the case was connected with investigative actions against the director of the ILP SB RAS Alexei Taichenachev. Togo had previously been suspected of entering into an illegal research and development contract with its commercial subsidiary.
