In Puerto El Carmen, police and military thwarted theft of military weapons

The detainee would have mentioned that he was transiting naturally along the banks of the international San Miguel river (border), in the company of other people, whose names he said he did not know. He declined to provide any further information.

Cevallos commented that on previous occasions there had already been attempts to steal war material from the military fort by subversive groups operating in the sector, even resulting in injuries to guard personnel.

With this background and being in flagrante delicto, in an apparent state of violation of private property, Kevin Yaquet was apprehended, said Pablo Ramos, commander of the Sucumbíos Police Subzone, who added that the case was reported to the Consulate of Peru.
