Ukraine will be able to deal with the Russian forces on its territory with an arsenal of “heavier and more modern” weapons that will be delivered by NATO member countries.
This was announced this Wednesday by Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of the Atlantic Alliance, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, in Switzerland.
“We will meet (on Friday) in Ramstein (Germany) in the contact group for Ukraine, led by the United States, and the main message will be more support with heavier and more modern weapons,” Stoltenberg said.
Vladimir Putin denounces the increasing delivery of Western weapons to Ukraine
Britain has already promised 14 Challenger 2 heavy tanks, and Poland has said it is willing to send 14 German-made Leopard 2 tanks if Berlin authorizes their re-export to Ukraine.
Pressure is mounting on the head of the German government, Olaf Scholz, to quickly authorize the delivery of Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
“We support Ukraine not only with money and humanitarian aid, but also with a lot of weapons,” Scholz said at one of the forum sessions.
Long-range Western missiles would help Ukraine win the war against Russia
“Tyranny advances faster than democracies,” said Volodimir Zelenski, the president of Ukraine, in a video presented at the World Economic Forum, to demand “speed” in decision-making about his country.
“Russia needed less than a second to start the war. The world needed days to react with the first sanctions,” recalled the president.
“It would be very dangerous to underestimate Russia. Vladimir Putin foresees new offensives and is ready to sacrifice his youth. He has mobilized more than 200,000 fighters and is buying weapons from authoritarian regimes like Iran, ”warned the NATO secretary general. (YO)
