Approximately 20 buckets that protected the artisanal fishing pier of Crucita, in Manabí, succumbed to the force of the waves evidenced this Wednesday morning in this rural parish of Portoviejo.

The work, which has not yet been completed, was hit by waves that reached four meters in height. The fishermen, in a hurry, sought to take care of their boats.

María José Velásquez, president of the Crucita Parish Council, indicated that in addition, some five meters of boardwalk in the Las Gilces sector gave way to the force of the sea.

The official pointed out that two fishermen from the Los Ranchos sector also lost the fishing gear of their boats at a time when they were trying to save them. The fishermen were saved from disappearing into the sea.

“The good thing is that there were no victims. The material can be recovered,” said Velásquez.

That same force of the sea generated fear in the Jaramijó fishing pier on Tuesday afternoon, but it did not reach majors.
