The final of the fourth valid urban motorsport held in Cuenca has generated various reactions due to the results. The organizers are pleased, but the victims of the accidents are outraged.

According to data from the Azuay Red Cross, there were eleven mishaps and eight injuries.

Much of the day was marked by traffic accidents. The most serious mishap occurred around 1:00 p.m., when a driver who was driving down Tadeo Torres street skidded in the opposite direction and crashed into the metal fences, hitting several fans, including an eight-year-old girl. and his mother.

His family is concerned, because in a first version of the Azuay Automobile Club, through a press release, it is detailed that “a minor suffered a bruise on one of her knees.”

Car competition in Cuenca was suspended after accidents and weather conditions

But, for his uncle, that information is inaccurate, because it was not said that he suffered a bruise inside the skull and that, although he was stable, he had to undergo an MRI.

“For a girl it is quite strong, because the jolt caused by the impact of the vehicle gave her brain a pretty strong blow. And what the doctor explained to us is that some vein or artery in her head is bleeding,” said the relative based on the specialists’ report.

But who was also injured is the mother. She presented lacerations on her face.

He said that they came to the avenue because they wanted to go to a costume shop located in the area, but out of curiosity they stayed behind the metal fence and the yellow tape placed by the organization, but that was insufficient.

In addition, they offered to cover the medical expenses through a medical insurance contracted by the organization, but he has a concern: who will support them with the psychological treatment and subsequent check-ups ordered by the doctors?

After the different mishaps, the event was definitively suspended by order of the authorities present, among them the political chief of Cuenca, Estefanía Vintimilla, who on Monday confirmed that it was because “security did not provide sufficient conditions, in addition to the meteorological issue neither supported”.

She considered that, although it is important to generate these spaces for the followers of this sport, they must be carried out in the right place and conditions.

In defense of the event, the president of the Azuay Automobile Club, John Zabaleta, said that all security measures were taken and the contingency plan authorized and signed by the municipal and state authorities, such as the Mobility Company and the Police General Intendant.

From his perspective, some facts are exaggerated and the positive part is not counted, such as the economic revitalization in the businesses near the circuit area.

Regarding the mishap suffered by the girl, he stated “that no one thought that the car could get there, because the fences were in place”; and so, from her perspective, she wasn’t serious. She assured that the help will be provided through a contracted policy of up to $10,000 for damages to third parties.

He assured that holding this meeting is his right to also appropriate the public space. For this reason, for this year they plan to hold another similar event and along the same route, that is, through the El Ejido area, considered a commercial and residential area of Cuenca. (YO)
