Minister Alex Contreras: There are resources to start paying the Fonavistas

The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alex Contreras appeared this Monday, January 9, before the Economic Commission of the Congress of the Republic to present the reactivation plan With Punche Peru, congressmen from various benches reminded him that the return of money to former exporters to the National Fund for Housing (Fonavi), having already dictated two laws for this to take place.

The minister acknowledged that it is a vulnerable population, the majority of the elderly who “are having a hard time”, but recalled that there is already within the fiscal budget for 2023 a group of resources allocated so that progress can be made in this payment in line with budgetary availability and without prejudice to other measures promoted by the MEF.

“In the case of fonaviI have been given information that there have been some legal issues, I am going to coordinate so that at least it can be done with what is already budgeted, which is S/50 million, Fonavi itself has resources of around S/1,600 million with which At least the first payments could be attended to. Arriving at my office, I will summon the representative of the Fonavi commission to inform me about the current situation and to see this potential solution,” he explained.

The non-grouped congressman, Carlos Anderson, asked Minister Contreras to start returning the money once and for all, since the members of the ad hoc Commission that represent the MEF hinder progress with the bureaucratic requests that they constantly raise.

“The ad hoc Commission was established three months ago, but every day they find another reason for nothing to happen in relation to Law 31173 and 31454, which are laws enacted by Congress and which fairly recognize the right of Fonavistas to receive a payment as soon as possible. From the point of view of economic policy, nothing more intelligent than fulfilling a debt commitment and transferring resources to a sector that we know is mostly poor and it is most probable that what they receive will be reinvested in the economy circuit,” Anderson said.

Carlos Cevallos, a congressman from the Integrity and Development bench, seconded the request and affirmed that it is important to speed up the return to the Fonavistas because “they are not having a good time” and they are demanding something that is fair.
