The damage to Ukraine from hostilities to date has reached $700 billion. Since September, this amount has doubled due to attacks on the country’s infrastructure, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a cabinet meeting.

According to the press service of the government, Shmyhal announced plans to start restoring Ukraine in the near future using funds confiscated from Russian banks. According to him, 17 billion hryvnias (about $462.5 million) are on a special account for this. The priority goal will be the restoration of destroyed housing, Shmyhal stressed. For 2023, the country’s budget includes UAH 35.5 billion (about $952.3 million) for the construction and repair of public buildings, critical infrastructure facilities, and provision of housing for temporarily displaced persons.

The Prime Minister named the country’s reconstruction as one of the ten priorities for 2023. The rest were the supply of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the integration of Ukraine into the European Union and NATO, the support program for combat veterans, the diversification of energy, the safety of students, the continuation of the decentralization reform, the reform of the stock market and pensions.
