During this year, the Violent Deaths Unit (Dinased) of the Police has been notified about the discovery of dismembered bodies or anatomical pieces, a head or a leg, somewhere in zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón).
The agents arrive at a record of at least 27 people who during 2022 have been dismembered or beheaded only in Guayaquil and Durán.
Some have already been identified and others have not. But the number of victims would be higher, since this official list only considers the complete bodies or those that have already been identified, because there are still pieces that have not been able to label, for example, weeks ago in the San Francisco cooperative, in front of to the Penitentiary, they found a leg and then an arm.
They would not be the same person and these two victims are not yet on the Police list because the rest of the bodies have not yet appeared.
Major Esteban Balladares, chief in charge of Dinased, details that of the 27 cases; 13 occurred in the Guayaquil prison, 8 in the Durán canton, 3 in Pascuales, 1 in Ceibos (Perimetral), 1 in Esteros (Trinitaria) and another in Nueva Prosperina (Mount Sinai).
To these cases we should add mutilated bodies found in recent days, such as the case of the woman found in three bags that were scattered on the perimeter road and who would have been a victim of femicide.
They find a beheaded young man on Las Cabras de Durán hill, the sixth case in six months
The policeman points out that at the beginning of 2022 they found the bodies of Durán in the sector of Cerro Las Cabras. The remains were bagged and complete, despite being cut.
Although it sounds grim, this makes the work of the agents easier because the relatives provide information about tattoos or scars that serve to give the body a name.
Although Balladares prefers not to talk about the investigation being carried out in Durán for these deaths, he points out that it was indeed part of the war between gangs that took place in that canton of Guayas in the first months of the year. AND
This even led to leaving the bodies of two men hanging on a pedestrian bridge in Durán.
This practice is now being carried out in the northwest of Guayaquil, where in addition to the global number of murders that has increased by 200%, several bodies and pieces have been reported.
In seven bags that were thrown away on the perimeter road, they found the remains of a dismembered person
On the perimeter road, almost a month ago, they found the remains of a man who had been dismembered into seven parts and the sacks with his limbs abandoned near the viaduct that leads to Los Ceibos. The victim was Joseph Villamar, 28 years old. No background.

He had been missing for almost a week and was identified by a tattoo.
On December 7, the residents of the Monte Sinai sector reported the discovery of a human leg in the well-known “canal of death” that crosses the area. As the days went by, the rest of the pieces of the man who was cut into six parts appeared. It is not yet known who he is.
They find a human leg in the ‘channel of death’, on Mount Sinai; Authorities are looking for the rest of the body.
Five days later, in a commercial street in Pascuales, the dismembered body of another man was abandoned. Although the Police did manage to identify the victim and she has no criminal record, the agents explain that his family did not provide information for the investigation and that the deceased did not have a job that justifies his income.
Ten days later, on December 20, at the same point in Pascuales, the head of a woman was abandoned.
The Police suspect that both cases are related because they were left in the same place, five meters away, and the cuts would have been made with the same instrument.
The woman, with a brunette complexion and curly hair, remains unidentified.
But on December 21, another macabre discovery was made. Another woman was found in parts in a garbage dump on Trinitaria Island, on the Primetral road. Her body was in two sacks. It had been cut into seven parts.

The victim was Yésica Marcela Calvo Montoya, a Colombian citizen who had been reported missing on December 2 in the La Caraguay sector.
The foreigner, according to police investigations, works as a moneylender although her family says that she sold perfumes aboard her motorcycle.
Marcela was identified by her mother thanks to a tattoo she had on her arm.
Balladares believes that the cases of Durán and Pascuales would indeed be a message from one gang to another, but the rest of the victims in Guayaquil, according to him, were abandoned in places where it was dark and they could throw the sacks on the way.
Kléber Carrión, a security expert and former police officer, believes that in recent years courage has been called for for human life.
“Before, even the hit men had codes of conduct, but now they kill whoever is and who is not, and they have even become butchers,” says the lawyer by profession.
He analyzes that the situation has already surpassed police control, since it has escalated much more to the point of leaving scattered remains, which is why he insists that it is important to modify the laws and remove the prison benefits that allow murderers and gang leaders to be released.
That is why he gives as an example the case of Junior Roldán, alias ‘JR’, the leader of Los Choneros who two weeks ago was released. Although he did not last long because he was again captured for carrying arms. (YO)
