“Championship”: the executive committee of the RFU created a working group on the transition to the Asian Confederation
Members of the executive committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) did not decide to move to the Asian Confederation. The results of the discussion became known to the “Championship” and “Sport-Express”.
According to the source, the RFU executive committee has created a working group that will study the issue of transition from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to the Asian Confederation. The discussion needs to be completed by March 2023. It is noted that the final decision on the transition to Asia has not been made.
Earlier, the RFU held two meetings of the executive committee, which discussed the possibility of moving to the Asian Confederation. It was noted that UEFA opposed this initiative. At the same time, the International Football Federation will not prevent the Russian team from participating in the selection for the 2026 World Cup if the country moves to Asia.
On February 28, UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Teams do not play in European competitions and other competitions under the auspices of the organization.
