Chinese scientists have conducted experiments in search of opportunities for long-term space travel. They studied the effect of the drug in primates and mice for the introduction of artificial sleep, in which the body temperature decreases. The results of the experiment are described in the journal The Innovation.

Scientists note that hibernation in warm-blooded animals slows down the processes of their metabolism, which, in particular, is typical for brown bears or bats. So far, specialists have managed to hibernate only Madagascar lemurs with the help of the drug, while other experimental animals continued to be awake. However, experts have identified a number of mechanisms that accompany hibernation in them – in particular, a decrease in heart rate in mice.

At the same time, in macaques, the body began to resist the cold due to increased heart rate, changes in blood composition, and an increase in muscle activity. The researchers noted that in order to continue the experiments, it is necessary to find a way to counter such reactions.
