The parents of the Atahualpa Educational Unit, which is located in the parish of the same name, in Ambato, view with concern the deterioration of a block of nine classrooms that is in disuse since at any moment it could collapse, according to them.
The situation has been going on for four years and with the passing of time the impact on the infrastructure has progressed.
For food, education, supplies and notebooks, inflation reached 0.36% in September 2022
Given the situation of the campus, they undertook a series of activities to, through self-management, build three classrooms that are urgently required, they said.
This newspaper tried to access the educational center to photograph the state of the block with problems, but there was no authorization from the district office of Education.
Jorge Vásconez, president of the Central Committee of Parents, reported that on Sunday, December 4, a solidarity event was held at the parish sports center to raise the greatest amount of economic resources. There was a gastronomic fair, presentation of artists, dogs from the municipal control agency, rumbatherapy, children’s games, painted faces and a raffle.
“We as parents could not sit idly by. That will never happen, that is why we lead this event with a very good reception from the people, taking into account that this helps an emblematic educational institution of Ambato, such as the Atahualpa Educational Unit, “said the man.
He said that the block of nine classrooms is in disuse and that is why they want to build three classrooms to meet the needs of the students. It is estimated, he said, that this would cost between $70,000 and $75,000, and they already have the plans approved, but the money is needed.
Vásconez assured that in the absence of nine classrooms and not having enough space, they adapted the place where the teachers attended to the parents, as well as other places so that the students could receive classes there.
Verónica Galarza, mother of a first-year high school student, regretted that the authorities do not give them the attention required by schools that are located especially in rural areas.
He stressed that currently the Atahualpa Educational Unit needs support because there are around 2,800 students who are educated there.
“The problem we have at the moment is the block of classrooms that is by the stadium, because it is about to fall down. I understand that the mayor of Ambato (Javier Altamirano) gave the floor to provide help to the institution, but let’s hope that he is not left alone in offering, because the help benefits students who are trying to improve themselves, ”said the woman.
He assured that the parents do self-management permanently and that each one even contributes with what is within their possibilities.
voluntary contributions
A mother of a boy in first grade two and a girl in third grade commented that all parents are concerned. And she said that those who did not participate in the solidarity activity voluntarily contributed $100 per parallel, with the purpose of completing the construction of three classrooms.

Sandra Albán, another mother of an initial level family, called on the authorities to attend to the Educational Unit.
Santiago Lozada, president of the Atahualpa Parish Council, believes that the foundations of the block of nine classrooms that are currently in disuse were not well built and that is why the building is sinking.
He said that the teams from the risk management units of the Provincial Government of Tungurahua and the Municipality of Ambato have been taken, who have warned that the classrooms are not habitable.
“When we have been in the place, the bases can already be seen in one part, in the northern sector, in the back of the classrooms you can see what the bases are already, practically in sight and it is supposed that the bases, the chains, they cannot be in sight. That is why I say that technically they have not been well located, of course they have been built many years ago, even when we are in the building and we jump, it moves,” the official described.
He argued that as a Parish Board they cannot intervene because they do not have the competence in education, but that with the rector Silvia Chimborazo and the parents they have coordinated some efforts.
Lozada pointed out that the problem was evident in this 2022 period, and that it could not be observed before because due to the pandemic, students did not attend face-to-face classes.
For his part, Javier Altamirano, mayor of Ambato, assured that several actions were coordinated with the Ministry of Education so that, in addition to the Atahualpa Educational Unit, schools that require support are identified, since he knows that the resources of that portfolio of State are not enough to meet all needs.
He added that he hopes that the Atahualpa Educational Unit will be officially sent, in writing, what are the needs to generate an agreement considering how far it can help.

María Bautista, district director of Education 18D01, explained that the state of the infrastructure (block of nine classrooms) was verified with the school administration unit, and that the reports of the building that is currently closed are prepared.
He said that collaboration was requested from the Technical University of Ambato (UTA) for a soil analysis, in addition to the visit of the mayor of Ambato to work in a coordinated manner so that the students are in a safe environment and with all the facilities for them to develop the pedagogical activities.
Ambato celebrates its independence with a call to unite to fight crime
Regarding the self-management activities of parents for the construction of three classrooms, he indicated that the Ministry of Education promotes the Sponsor a School project, which allows charitable individuals or companies to get involved and provide support from school supplies to construction physical.
Bautista explained that the parents’ committee plays an important role in this regard and that the authorities provided support for the activity on December 4.
To meet the need for the block of nine classrooms, he added, spaces were adapted in the laboratories. (YO)
