They set fire to a man accused of robbery and the motorcycle on which he was mobilizing in the parish of El Carmen

Angry citizens set fire to an alleged thief along with his motorcycle on the afternoon of this Friday, December 16, in the rural parish of Santa María, belonging to the El Carmen canton, in the north of the province of Manabí.

In that sector of the coastal province, the subject would have committed a robbery in a place where a financial institution post operates.

Apparently, the residents of the sector noticed the situation and intercepted the suspect and then set him on fire along with his vehicle.

So far it is known that the citizen, who could not be identified, was taken to the El Carmen hospital due to the multiple burns he suffered after the incident.

According to detailed citizens, the man would have participated in an assault together with three other subjects in an internet cafe where a financial institution stands. Money was allegedly stolen there, but the amount was not confirmed.

After the assault, the subjects fled on the motorcycle, but apparently a person who was moving in another vehicle hit them, it was reported.

The other two men, who were on the motorcycle as passengers, managed to flee the scene, but the driver managed to be held by the citizens, who took action on their own. They set the motorcycle on fire, while they also poured gasoline on the detainee. Later, a person threw a lit match at the individual and the fire immediately covered the subject’s entire body, who was screaming desperately on the public road.

Several people came out with a blanket soaked in water and covered the subject’s body to put out the flames that were engulfing him.

The man was transferred by ambulance from the Fire Department to the basic hospital in El Carmen, due to the multiple burns he suffered in the incident. (YO)
