Google has announced that it will remove visits to abortion clinics from its users’ geodata. This is reported by The New York Times.

The changes will come into effect in the coming weeks and will also affect visits to fertility clinics, domestic violence shelters, drug treatment centers and other “special treatment” places.

Google, which stores vast amounts of sensitive information about its billions of users, has come under scrutiny after the US Supreme Court overturned a 1973 ruling last week that guaranteed the right to abortion for all citizens. If Congress does not take action, the states will be able to regulate this issue at their discretion.

In different cities of the States, rallies were held against this decision, it was also criticized by President Joe Biden.

It is reported that Google decided to remove location data under pressure from the Alphabet trade union, which consists of about 800 people. In accordance with changes in US law, law enforcement officers can require applications and companies to provide information about women and doctors who have had abortions in order to initiate a criminal case.

Earlier it was reported that residents of several US states are appealing the decision of the Supreme Court on abortion.
