Olivia Rodrigo Donates $5,000 for Alabama Student Tuition

Singer Olivia Rodrigo donated $5,000 to University of Alabama student Jamie Causey to help pay for her final semester of college, according to Town & Country.

Causey, a 21-year-old from Alexander City, Alabama, completed her degree in public relations last year after receiving the financial gift directly from the performer.

The student revealed on social media that Rodrigo reached out to her on the video sharing platform TikTok after seeing a clip in which Causey admitted struggling to afford her remaining university semesters.

Rodrigo is an American singer and songwriter known for chart-topping pop albums such as Sour and Guts. Town & Country is an American luxury lifestyle publication that covers culture, society, and philanthropy.

Social Media Message and Financial Support

According to a screenshot of the private message exchange shared by Causey, Rodrigo wrote that while she knew Causey did not know her, she loved her videos. The singer described Causey as looking like the kindest person and called her a huge source of positivity and light in her life.

Rodrigo added in the message that she had seen Causey's latest video regarding tuition costs and offered to help if the student was open to it, before asking for Causey's payment application details to transfer the funds.

In her response, Causey told the artist that she was on the verge of tears and expressed her gratitude, sharing that Rodrigo's music served as a constant source of strength for her. She asked Rodrigo not to feel obligated to send money, but noted that she was willing to accept any assistance.

University Costs and Graduation Timing

Tuition fees at the University of Alabama for in-state students stand at $5,959 per semester. Rodrigo's $5,000 contribution covered the vast majority of Causey's final academic balance.

The University of Alabama, located in Tuscaloosa, is the state flagship public institution. Alexander City is a municipality situated in Tallapoosa County in east-central Alabama.

Causey explained that she chose to keep Rodrigo's donation private until after her graduation. She stated that she did not want such an important personal milestone to become a subject of public comment while she was completing her studies.

Philanthropy and Recent Music Achievements

The donation forms part of a broader pattern of charitable activity for the singer. In June 2026, Rodrigo organized her first charity festival, with all proceeds directed toward organizations focused on women's empowerment.

That same month, Rodrigo topped the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart for the third time in her career as her latest release returned to the number one spot.

The Billboard 200 is the main music industry record chart ranking the top-selling albums and EPs in the United States.
