Police in Moscow have detained a 16-year-old schoolboy after security camera footage captured him assaulting a man inside the city subway system, official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk announced on her Telegram channel.
Surveillance footage showed the teenager chasing a male passenger, grabbing his backpack, and initiating a physical confrontation. The youth struck the victim multiple times, knocking him to the floor before police officers arrived at the scene to apprehend the suspect.
According to Volk, the suspect explained during interrogation that the dispute began at the entrance to Kitay-Gorod station when the victim accidentally bumped into him. The teenager requested an apology, but the man walked away without responding.
The teenager followed the man down the escalator and approached him a second time to demand a can of beer. When the passenger refused, the teenager launched a violent physical attack against him.
Station security and medical response
The victim received necessary medical treatment following the incident. Police officers who were stationed nearby responded promptly to the disturbance and took the youth into custody.
Kitay-Gorod is a busy central interchange station on the Moscow Metro, a massive underground rail network that serves millions of commuters daily across the Russian capital. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, known as the MVD, oversees domestic police operations and public security throughout the country.
Legal proceedings
Russian authorities have opened a criminal investigation against the teenager under Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which covers hooliganism.
Under Russian law, Article 213 addresses severe breaches of public order that demonstrate explicit disrespect toward society. Investigators have released the 16-year-old under a formal pledge of recognizance not to leave and maintain proper behavior, a standard pre-trial restriction requiring suspects to remain at their registered address during legal proceedings.
