A wildfire was tearing through the Toutuli area of Megara on August 2, consuming everything in its path as firefighters and residents fought the blaze under strong winds.
The fire was being driven by powerful winds across the region. Dry grass caught fire instantly, and each time crews extinguished one outbreak, new ones sprang up elsewhere.

Firefighters, local residents, and volunteer crews were working with hoses and machinery provided by the regional authority to try to slow the advance of the flames.
An excavator operator working to open a firebreak in the Toutuli area made a dramatic appeal to Protothema correspondent Marinos Aleiferis, urging him to call for aerial firefighting support immediately. The operator warned that there were five propane tanks in the area.
