Mandy Moore has revealed the secret behind her marriage to musician Taylor Goldsmith, saying the couple treats their relationship as just as much of a priority as raising their three sons.
Moore and Goldsmith, the frontman of the band Dawes, have been married for eight years and together for more than a decade. The singer and actress opened up about how they balance parenting with keeping their own bond strong.
Moore told PEOPLE that they are a priority, referring to her relationship with Goldsmith. The couple married in November 2018, a year after getting engaged.
She said the children would obviously always be a priority, but their marriage was an equally important one, because if they managed to function as a united and coordinated team, she believed it made them better parents, better partners, better for each other and better for everyone.
Splitting work and family duties
Moore explained how the couple manages their professional commitments. She said they try not to both be working at the same time. She said he had a crazy, packed summer with touring, recording and everything that goes with it, so she stayed home and, in a way, kept things in order there.
She added that he does not like to be away for more than two weeks at a time, but that even two weeks now feels like a long time to them. Beyond what she called their two-week rule, the couple also makes sure to schedule the occasional date night just for the two of them.
Help from family and date nights
Moore highlighted the support they get from her husband's mother, noting that her mother-in-law lives fairly close to them, which she said was really nice. She said that on the night of the interview they planned to put the children to bed and then go out for a small date. She added that their favorite restaurant is just down the road, which she said made them feel less guilty about it.
Moore said that making time to grow closer and talk things through is important for their relationship. She said it keeps them active in their relationship and helps them stay on the same page about everything.
About the couple
Moore, known for her acting and music career, and Goldsmith, who fronts the band Dawes, have three children together. The couple got engaged in 2017 and married in November 2018.
