The armed confrontation occurred in the courtyard of a residential building on Popova Street, where officers caught the suspect red-handed with the weapon still in his hands. The victim, identified by authorities as a 61-year-old acquaintance, was the cohabitant of the suspect's former wife.

Law enforcement officials stated that the suspect opened fire because of intense jealousy and personal animosity toward the older man.

The press service of the Siberian Order of Zhukov District of the National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation confirmed the detention to news outlet Lenta.ru, reporting that patrol officers secured the gunman directly at the scene.

National Guard response in Siberia

Krasnoyarsk is a major industrial and administrative hub in Siberia, situated along the Yenisei River more than 4,000 kilometers east of Moscow. With a population exceeding one million people, it serves as the administrative capital of the vast Krasnoyarsk Krai territory.

The National Guard of the Russian Federation, known as Rosgvardiya, is an independent domestic military force created in 2016. Operating separately from the civilian police under the Interior Ministry, the service oversees firearms control, public security, and armed response operations. Its Siberian District directs units stationed across large territorial jurisdictions in central and eastern Russia.

Separate airport detention

The Krasnoyarsk shooting followed another major arrest reported by Russian law enforcement, in which an alleged killer was caught at Pulkovo Airport in Saint Petersburg. In that unrelated case, a 36-year-old resident of the Leningrad region was detained following a fatal dispute in the settlement of Fyodorovskoye.

Investigators said that the 36-year-old man argued with a 35-year-old acquaintance, stabbed the victim several times, and attempted to flee before police apprehended him at the airport terminal.

In Krasnoyarsk, the 50-year-old gunman remains in custody as authorities proceed with the investigation. Under Russian legal practice, suspects caught at gunpoint following violent domestic disputes are routinely held in pre-trial detention while state prosecutors prepare formal homicide charges.
