Fast food chain KFC opened its first restaurant in the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv on August 22, 2026. The new outlet is located inside the Hollywood shopping and entertainment center.
The company said the Chernihiv venue is among the first to feature an updated brand image of founder Colonel Sanders in its interior design.
Kentucky Fried Chicken, commonly known as KFC, is an American fast-food chain headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. The franchise is known for its fried chicken products and uses the image of founder Colonel Harland Sanders as its brand mascot.
Restaurant specifications and ordering options
The new Chernihiv venue covers a total area of 160 square meters. The shared food court area within the shopping center provides seating for 150 to 200 visitors.
Customers can place orders at standard checkout counters, via self-service kiosks, or online through the KFC mobile app. Food is available through direct takeaway pickup, KFC's own delivery service, and third-party delivery platforms Glovo, Bolt Food, and Loko.
KFC noted that the opening of the location has created 25 new jobs in Chernihiv.
Economic impact and city recovery
Chernihiv suffered extensive damage during the early stage of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and remains located close to the border with Russia. Despite those conditions, KFC stated that opening a venue in the city serves as a signal to other large companies that Chernihiv is returning to structured economic life.
The company added that it expects sufficient customer demand in Chernihiv.
KFC network growth in Ukraine
KFC opened its first restaurant in Ukraine in the capital city of Kyiv in 2012. As of September 2025, the brand operated 68 restaurants across Ukraine, 20 of which were launched after the start of the full-scale invasion.
During 2025, KFC franchisees opened four new venues in Ukraine, including two restaurants in the Black Sea port city of Odesa on August 22 and August 28, 2025.
On December 1, 2025, KFC opened a restaurant in the western city of Kolomyia. At the time, the company stated that it plans to expand its restaurant network beyond regional capitals into Ukrainian towns with populations of 50,000 to 100,000 people.
