Russian Izdeliye 51 kamikaze drones belonging to the Lancet reconnaissance and strike complex have been fitted with standard camouflage paint for visual masking during combat operations.

Footage revealing the new camouflage scheme applied to the unmanned aircraft was first highlighted and reported by the Voenny Osvetomitel Telegram channel.

The published image shows an Izdeliye 51 loitering munition featuring its characteristic X-shaped wing design. The body of the drone has been coated in a multi-tone camouflage pattern composed of black, green, and brown spots. The specialized paint application is intended to lower the likelihood of visual detection by enemy observers and make target identification more difficult while in flight.

Powered by an electric motor, the Izdeliye 51 drone is specifically built to engage and destroy enemy ground equipment, military hardware, and stationary assets located deep inside enemy rear areas. The aircraft is launched into flight from a compact catapult launcher and can achieve speeds exceeding 90 kilometers per hour.

Capabilities of the Lancet loitering munition

The Lancet complex operates as an integrated reconnaissance and strike system, combining real-time aerial surveillance capabilities with precision attack capabilities. Loitering munitions, often called kamikaze or suicide drones, hover or fly in target zones until an enemy position is confirmed, at which point the operator directs the drone to collide with the target to detonate its warhead.

The application of standard camouflage comes after reports of long-distance strikes conducted by the Lancet platform. A Russian Lancet drone previously hit a military target at an operational range of approximately 200 kilometers from its launch site.

That long-range strike targeted a specialized vehicle operating as part of an IRIS-T SLM anti-aircraft missile system, which was deployed in the Odesa region of southern Ukraine.

Air defense targeting and battlefield context

The IRIS-T SLM is a modern medium-range surface-to-air missile system developed in Germany and supplied to Ukraine to defend strategic sites against incoming missiles, aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Tactical vehicles within the IRIS-T SLM battery include command posts, radar units, and mobile launcher trucks.

Odesa Oblast is a coastal administrative region situated along the Black Sea in southern Ukraine. Due to its major port infrastructure and military facilities, the region remains a primary area for defense deployments and strategic logistics operations.
