Greece has published a joint decision resolving delayed subsidy payments to olive oil producer organisations under the Common Agricultural Policy.

Greek olive oil subsidies cleared in new official decree

Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food Giannis Andrianos has signed a joint decision resolving pending subsidies for Greek olive oil sector organisations.

The ministerial decision, published in the official Government Gazette, was signed alongside Giorgos Pitsilis, governor of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue, known as AADE. It establishes the regulatory framework for operational programmes under the European Union Common Agricultural Policy running from 2023 to 2027, clearing administrative obstacles that have held up financial support.

Greek officials designed the measure to resolve issues that have disrupted payment schedules and to secure more effective use of available European funds. The decision sets clear standards for processing claims submitted by recognised producer groups across the country.

In a formal statement, Andrianos said the primary objective was transparency in managing European Union resources so that aid is directed effectively to beneficiaries following thorough audits by competent agencies.

Support for olive producers

Andrianos said the administration aimed to build a more organised, competitive, and resilient olive sector that invests in product quality, innovation, and environmental protection. He added that the government actively supports the collective effort of growers, working to ensure the natural advantages of Greek land produce higher value and greater development opportunities for rural communities.

Olive Oil Sector Organisations, known under Greek law as OEF, represent cooperatives and associations of olive growers. Under the European Union Common Agricultural Policy, these bodies execute operational programmes focused on improving oil quality, introducing modern cultivation techniques, enhancing environmental safeguards, and strengthening traceability across the supply chain.

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue oversees state revenue collection and tax compliance in Greece, working alongside ministerial departments to audit subsidy distributions and maintain fiscal oversight. Publication of the joint decision in the Government Gazette brings the rules into formal effect, clearing the way for pending payments to reach eligible organisations.
