Greece's Cabinet is set to convene on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 11:30 local time at the Maximos Mansion, chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, as the government prepares for the return of political business in September.
The agenda includes preparations for the new school year, the launch of the National Social Agreement aimed at cutting prices, a review of the "Greece 2.0" recovery programme, and new Special Spatial Planning Frameworks.
New School Year and Price Cuts on 1,500 Products
Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki will give an extensive briefing on preparations and institutional changes ahead of the new school and academic year, according to the government's agenda.
On growth and the cost of living, Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos will present the steps for implementing the National Social Agreement on price reduction. The agreement takes effect on August 31, 2026, and provides for average price cuts ranging from 5% to 20% on up to 1,500 basic products.
Review of the "Greece 2.0" Recovery Plan
Minister of State Akis Skertsos and Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis will present the official review marking the completion of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, known as "Greece 2.0."
Papathanasis will also present a bill on the management and further strengthening of the country's development programmes.
Regional Development and Spatial Planning
The Cabinet agenda is completed by proposals on the spatial planning landscape and the regions. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Kostis Hatzidakis and Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Thanasis Kontogeorgis will present proposals on territorial cohesion, the establishment of a Government Committee for Insularity, and a Special Secretariat for Mountainous Areas.
Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou and Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni will submit a joint proposal to the Cabinet.
Papastavrou will also present a proposal, together with Deputy Minister Nikos Tsafos and Deputy Minister Maria-Eleni Soukouli-Vialiali, on a new framework for developing renewable energy sources.
