Google's new Pixel 11 Pro XL scored 168 points in DxOMark's camera testing, matching the score earned by Apple's iPhone 17 Pro, according to the benchmarking firm.
The result places the Pixel 11 Pro XL fifth in DxOMark's overall smartphone camera ranking. It sits just seven points behind the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, which currently leads the list.
DxOMark's testers found that the Pixel 11 Pro XL's camera system has improved over earlier generations, driven largely by a higher quality telephoto lens as well as software upgrades that lean more heavily on artificial intelligence.
According to the reviewers, Google has increased quality in exposure, sharpness and color reproduction, and has cut down autofocus time. They also reported less noise and greater detail in images, helped by a new telephoto lens that captures 30 percent more light than before.
Camera specifications
The Pixel 11 Pro XL's front camera is a 42-megapixel ultrawide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, phase-detection autofocus, a 103-degree field of view, and 4K video recording at 30 or 60 frames per second.
On the back, the phone carries a Pro Zoom capable of up to 120x hybrid magnification, laser autofocus, a color spectrum and flicker sensor, Pixel Shift, a Best Take feature, and video recording up to 8K at 24 or 30 frames per second.
Selfie camera stands out
DxOMark singled out the front camera as a standout feature of the Pixel 11 Pro XL, describing its selfie results as reliable. The firm credited this to precise exposure and natural color reproduction, particularly in skin tones.
Reviewers also noted a strong level of detail, fast and accurate autofocus, and effective background separation in blur and bokeh effects.
Video remains the weak point
Video is where the Pixel 11 Pro XL continues to trail rival flagship phones, according to DxOMark. The firm pointed to lower-quality stabilization and weaker performance in changing light or low-light conditions.
The ultra-wide-angle lens also produced less detail on video, with DxOMark describing the result as below what is expected in the premium segment.
