Google has opened registration for a free training programme that will teach Ukrainian teachers how to use artificial intelligence in the classroom and in their daily work. The initiative, called the "AI Academy for Educators," is being run jointly with Ukraine's Ministry of Education and Science and begins on 28 September 2026.
Registration for the programme opened on 10 September. Participation is free, and the first sessions are scheduled to start later this month.
What the training covers
The programme consists of 12 online trainings split across three areas: preschool education, general secondary education and higher education. Sessions will walk teachers through practical scenarios for applying AI in schools, using Google tools including Gemini, Gems, Gemini Notebook, Gemini in Classroom, Google Vids and Nano Banana Pro.
Topics on the syllabus include using AI to plan and prepare teaching materials, academic integrity, adapting assignments and materials to different students' needs, and building interactive exercises, simulators, simulations and educational games without any programming knowledge. The course also includes practical assignments, tests and feedback for participants.
Certificate on completion
Teachers who finish the course can receive a certificate worth 1.5 ECTS credits, issued by the Academy of Digital Development. The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System, or ECTS, is the standard used across European higher education to measure and compare the workload of courses and training.
Part of a wider push into education tools
The relaunch of the Academy comes as Google continues to build out AI tools aimed at classrooms. In July 2026, the company renamed its NotebookLM product to Gemini Notebook, a change that followed the integration of NotebookLM into the main Gemini app in April.
Ukraine has also seen homegrown AI development in adjacent areas. A Ukrainian-built AI service called Rukopys OCR, designed to recognise handwriting, reportedly outperformed Gemini-3 Flash in testing, according to its developers.
Google's education programme is being delivered in coordination with Ukraine's education ministry as part of ongoing efforts to bring AI literacy into schools at every level, from preschool through university.
