Earth could come under the influence of a geomagnetic storm within the next 24 hours, with the probability of disturbances estimated at 75%, according to the Phobos weather center, as cited by TASS.
The cause is a coronal mass ejection that occurred on the Sun on July 30. Specialists calculate that the solar plasma cloud will reach Earth and intensify the solar wind, which could exceed 600 kilometers per hour, disturbing the planet’s magnetic field.
The storm’s intensity is forecast to reach G1, classified as weak, or G2, classified as moderate. It is expected to begin in the second half of the night and last approximately six to nine hours.
According to Phobos, elevated magnetic field activity will continue through the end of Sunday and into the first half of Monday, though disturbances are not expected to reach full storm levels during that period.
