Four bears wandered onto the property of a woman living in the village of Epishino, in Russia's Krasnoyarsk Krai, the regional Interior Ministry's press service said.
After spotting the animals on her land, the property owner called the police. Officers travelled to the scene along with specialists from a local hunting association, and the group killed all four bears.
The Interior Ministry said the measure was necessary because the animals posed a danger to people living in the area.
Police warn villagers to stay indoors
Following the incident, police urged residents of Epishino not to enter the surrounding forest and to avoid going outside in the evening. Anyone who comes across wild animals should contact emergency services right away, the ministry said.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, known in Russia as the MVD, is the country's main police authority. It oversees law enforcement across Russia's regions, including remote rural areas of Siberia that border vast stretches of forest and wilderness.
A region covered in taiga
Krasnoyarsk Krai is one of Russia's largest regions, stretching across central Siberia and covered in large part by dense taiga forest. Brown bears are common across the territory and occasionally stray into villages and rural settlements, particularly in the late summer and autumn months, when they are most active in their search for food ahead of winter hibernation.
Brown bears are the most common bear species in Russia and among the largest land predators in Eurasia. Adult males can weigh several hundred kilograms and are capable of causing serious injury to humans and livestock, which is why wildlife authorities often treat sightings near populated areas as a public safety issue.

The Epishino case follows an earlier report of a bear climbing onto the roof of a house in the Takmak garden association near Krasnoyarsk, the regional capital, in an area popular with residents who keep seasonal dacha homes outside the city.
