For several weeks, defense lawyers have been pushing the news in court that the actress almost lost her role in the sequel to “Aquaman” because of accusations that she made up allegations of domestic violence. Johnny Depp, in turn, testified on Wednesday in the final week of the “Decade Trial” that he made several phone calls that helped Heard get a role in the 2018 movie.
Depp: I helped Amber get a role in “Aquaman”
He was asked to intervene by Amber Heard herself, who was concerned that some of the pictures for the super-production with Jason Momoa were to be shot in Australia. In 2016, proceedings were initiated against the actress there for illegally bringing dogs into the country. The case was eventually dropped, but Heard was to worry that Warner Bros. for this reason, he may object to her and refuse to allow her to participate in the film. At that time, Johnny Depp was to have several phone calls on her behalf with representatives of the label:
I had with Warner Bros. a deal for several movies so I knew these people and had a business relationship with them already. She asked if I could talk to them. I called three high-profile people: Kevin Tsujihara, Sue Kroll, and Greg Silverman.
As reported by ew.com, when asked if she would have gotten the role without his help, he replied evasively: “I can only say that she was finally cast. I dispelled their fears to some extent.”
Amber Heard previously testified that she won the role without the help of her ex-husband. When Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez suggested otherwise, she emphatically insisted, “No, Mrs. Vasquez. I got the role by casting myself. That’s how the industry works.” The actress’s lawyers also emphasized that after an interview with lawyer Adam Waldman, who stated that her accusations of domestic violence against her ex-husband were fabricated, there was a risk that Heard would be out of the second part of the production.
According to their narrative, it was avoided, but the role of Mera was to be drastically limited and close to 10 minutes of screen time. About the fact that the scenario has changed and has been cut, among others a large fight scene that Heard would practice five hours a day for several months, the actress was not to learn until on set.
This allegation was contested by a representative of Warner Bros. Walter Hamada. The producer testified that in the second part of the film, the role of the heroine played by Heard was supposed to be marginal anyway, because the creators decided to focus on the relationship of the main character with his half-brother and make it a “buddy comedy”. He admitted, however, that it was considered whether to involve another actress for the role of Mera, because, according to the creators, there was no chemistry between Heard and Jason Momoa. Director James Wan and Jason Momoa himself were to defend the actress.
Heard’s lawyers accused Depp on Wednesday of wanting to have her fired after he split up with his wife. A text message sent to his sister, Christine Dombrowski, was shown in court on June 4, 2016 – shortly after he was given a court order restraining from approaching Amber Heard. “I want her to be mentioned in that DC movie,” the actor said.
Depp explained that he felt guilty that he initially presented a positive image of his wife in front of the studio and wanted to warn them that things would take an “ugly turn”: – I felt responsible for the fact that I went to these people and talked about her in superlatives. I felt it was my duty to tell the truth to Warner Bros. about what will happen. And it was about their two big movie franchises that were going to get cumbersome [Depp w tym czasie grał w ‘Fantastycznych zwierzętach’ na motywach pomysłu J.K. Rowling – pzyp. red.] due to media reports. At that time, everything that was written about me made me Charles Manson. I was the worst man in the world and these accusations did not end there, it was like continuous fire – described the actor. But he also denied that he had asked for Heard to be fired.
“The Process of the Decade” and Depp’s and Heard’s Dislocated Careers
Hailed as the “trial of the decade,” the litigation between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard is coming to an end. The actor sued his ex-wife for defamation and demands $ 50 million in damages from her. He believes that her 2018 column in The Washington Post ruined his career. The actress wrote in it that she was a victim of domestic violence and although she did not give any names, the shadow of suspicion fell on her ex-husband, with whom she divorced in 2016. Soon after, Depp lost his contract to participate in the next films in the series “Pirates of the Caribbean” and was also removed from the series “Fantastic Beasts”, where he was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen.

Amber Heard has filed a counter-suit and wants $ 100 million from him. She accused him and his lawyers that they had defamed her by claiming that her allegations were untrue. Former spouses accuse each other of the use of physical and psychological violence, and both argue that their careers have clearly suffered from a scandal over them. For five weeks now, the media around the world has been writing about the details of the testimonies of other witnesses, which are broadcast live on television.
