Tax relief for commuting to work in 2022 is nothing more than employee tax-deductible costs. The amount of the deduction is included in the PIT Act, and since 2019 its amount has not changed. The discount ranges from PLN 250 to PLN 300 per month at the maximum, and on an annual basis it amounts to PLN 3,600. The amount of the deduction depends largely on the place of residence. People commuting to their place of work from another city can count on the increased amount.

What conditions must be met to deduct travel costs?

Persons employed under a contract of employment may benefit from a tax relief for commuting. In addition, two conditions must be met, namely:

  • the employee does not charge a separation allowance,
  • the employee submitted a declaration to the employer for the purposes of applying increased tax deductible costs.

How to deduct travel costs to work? Most often, the employer did it for us

In most cases, the employee tax-deductible costs have already been taken into account by the employer in the monthly remuneration. Income is reduced by the above-mentioned amounts, and it is from it that the advance on income tax is calculated. The monthly salary is therefore higher, so we take advantage of the allowance for commuting during the year. Only a few employees of employment contracts will be able to count on a refund in 2022. This applies, for example, to people working in a location other than the workplace, meeting certain conditions, who have not submitted a relevant declaration to the employer.
