Eurovision 2022. The Ukrainian Kalush Orchestra operates at the front. They will go to Turin after the war

“No matter what circumstances we go to, I will try to be useful for” – announces Ołeh Psiuk, the band’s leader. The selection of the Ukrainian representative for Eurovision took place in mid-February. Then the preselection was won by the singer Alina Pash, but it quickly turned out that she had forged documents confirming that the singer did not cross the Ukrainian-Russian border. When the case came to light, the artist was disqualified and the Kalush Orchestra was to replace her. A few days after the announcement of the official candidate for the competition, Russia attacked Ukraine. The band’s performance in Turin was questioned.

Eurovision 2022. The Ukrainian band sent the recording to the organizers of Eurovision

Kalush Orchestra is a band that combines rap sound with elements of Ukrainian folk. The group was founded by Oleh Psiuk – rapper and frontman of the Kalush Orchestra. The project was created just a few months ago. The first single “Shtomber Womber” became a Ukrainian hit and received positive reviews from critics. In the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, the band will perform with the song “Stefania”, which is dedicated to the leader’s mother.

The artists recorded a special video that was sent to the organizers to ensure that the Ukrainian team would be in the finals.

Despite the fights, the Kalush Orchestra will record its performance in a safe place, which will be sent to the organizers of the song contest, and in the event of our victory over the occupiers, our delegation will travel to Italy by May and sing live throughout Europe!

– announced on the team’s Facebook.

Eurovision 2022. Members of the Kalush Orchestra are now facing different problems

The Kalush Orchestra group is selected by bookmakers as one of the favorites of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, and they themselves do not share this optimism. – I can’t enjoy it when I’m worried about my loved ones. The war separated me and my girlfriend. She is 300 km away from me. We cannot meet because it is very dangerous -.

The singer’s girlfriend is currently hiding in the bunker and produces Molotov cocktails with the others. – No matter in what circumstances we go to Eurovision, I will try to be useful for Ukraine. Even if the war ends in the near future, it will not be easy anyway, because we will need a long time to rebuild. The country is in ruins, he concluded.

The musician believes that the current situation in his homeland shows that no one can feel safe. – If you think that this will not happen in your country, there is no guarantee of it. We also thought that this would not happen to us. Therefore, let’s stop it as soon as possible. We want peace to finally reign in Ukraine, he comments.

The musicians are now separate, but are preparing for the competition. They plan to move to Kiev, where they will begin rehearsals with the song “Stefania”. According to the musicians, the piece has already become an unofficial anthem of all people fighting for their homeland in Ukraine. Psiuk is currently organizing charity fundraising and actively helping those in need who have stayed in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Kyłymmen is active in the territorial defense forces.
