Instituto Cervantes supports the International Congress of Writers in Puerto Rico

The Cervantes Institute announced its sponsorship First International Congress of Writers What will be celebrated in Puerto Rico next April, the organization of the local event reported this Tuesday.

The cultural event, which will include the participation of authors from Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, Mexico, Peru and the Dominican Republic, It will take place from April 5 to 7 next.

To the congress —dedicated to Norbert Gonzaleza vital figure in the world of books in Puerto Rico and who passed away last year— will be attended by the Argentine Marcelo Lujánthe Spanish Rose Montero, the Mexican William Arriaga and the Puerto Rican Edward Lalo.

Other writers who will participate are Pilar Quintana (Colombia), Karla Suárez (Cuba), Chiqui Fábregat and Javier Sagarna (Spain), Iván Thays (Peru), Mayra Santos Febres, Mayra Montero, Tere Dávila, José Borges, Arlene Carballo, Luis Negrón and Magali García Ramis ( Puerto Rico) and Pedro Antonio Valdés (Dominican Republic).

Meanwhile, Helena Sampedro (Puerto Rico) and José Manuel Fajardo (Spain) will present lectures, workshops and round tables at the event that will take place at the Center for Fine Arts in Caguas, a city near San Juan.

As part of the meeting of writers, several of them will visit university campuses on the island to share their experiences with students.

Sagarna’s visits to the UPR, Humacao campus (east) on April 4 at 10:00 a.m. (2:00 p.m. GMT) and Quintana’s to the UPR, Río Piedras campus (San Juan), on April 6, have already been confirmed. at 11:30 a.m. (3:30 p.m. GMT).

The Cervantes Institute has two offices in Spain, one in Madrid and the other in Alcalá de Henares, and was created in 1991 to attend to the linguistic and cultural heritage that is common to Spanish-speaking countries and peoples.

The entity, present in 88 cities, will receive the conferences that WIPR will transmit – the government channel – to 45 countries for the benefit of those interested in expanding their knowledge on this subject through their libraries, as detailed in a statement. (I)
