Starting this Monday, March 7, the 2022 auditions will be held for the choir Guayas Nucleus House of Culturedirected by the teacher Juan Carlos Urrutia. “We are the first choir to make this call for face-to-face rehearsals”affirms Urrutia, who says that the last audition was between January and February 2020.
Applicants must be between 15 and 35 years old, choral practice (having been part of choirs, groups of singers of religious communities, etc.), vocal practice, healthy voice. “We are looking for them to have singing habits more than anything else, since this is the most essential part of choral activity. In other words, we are looking for someone who has an innate, natural taste for singing…”, Explain.
Once accepted, the members will participate in the established rehearsals from Monday to Thursday, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. “It is important that they have the availability of time, that they have the commitment”stresses Urrutia.
“I am going to implement a practice that I developed in the pandemic, which will include audio and video, recordings, sheet music, so that now you can also rehearse at home and not just in the choir room.”, adds the director.
The tests will be carried out during this month, until April 7, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the rehearsal room of the choir, on the third floor of the institution, located on Avenida 9 de Octubre and Pedro Moncayo.

This institutional choir has been in existence for almost 24 years, being the second oldest choral group in the provincial nuclei). Their choral diffusion work has taken them to numerous Guayaquil stages, making multiple presentations on television cultural programs inside and outside the country.
They have participated in different musical events such as the International Choir Festival in Piura, Peru, (1999 – 2004 – 2006), the Choir Festival in tribute to maestro Oscar Vargas in Quito (2002 and 2004), the VII International Choir Festival ” José María Bravo Márquez” in Medellín, Colombia (2008), the X World Choir Festival in Puebla – Mexico (2009), the IV World Choir Festival “Buenos Aires Coral” in the city of Buenos Aires (2010), VI Festival Coral “Trujillo Canta América”, held in the city of Trujillo – Peru (2014 and 2018), among others.
In the same way he has performed with the Guayaquil Symphony Orchestra, the mass in G major by F. Schubert and the Halleluja of the Oratorio The Messiah, of Handel under, the direction of the teacher David Harutyunyan; The Creole Mass by Ariel Ramírez, under the direction of Fernando Gil and Juan Carlos Urrutia; the Mass in C major opus 86 by L. Beethoven in ensembles with other international choirs under the direction of the maestro Werner Pfaff; Ecuadorian Popular Mass, under the direction of its composer (Juan Carlos Urrutia); among other interpretations.
In 2006, the Ecuadorian Government decorated the choir pavilion with the “Doctor Vicente Rocafuerte” artistic merit medal, in recognition of his work in promoting choral music. In 2009 the choir was declared Illustrious Guest of the City of Puebla – Mexico.
In 2012 the Ministry of Culture of the Province of Mendoza – Argentina gives recognition to the work of the Choir in the consolidation of the Cultural Exchange Program of Argentine and Ecuadorian Music. (I)
