The Eiffel Tower It will be lit up in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, following the example of numerous European buildings with which countries and institutions have shown their support for Ukraine, invaded by Russia, in recent hours.
The monument, one of the most visited in the world, will be illuminated in yellow and blue from this Friday at 6:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. GMT) until after midnight and for the next three days.
The Society that manages the monument (Sete) explained in a statement that this symbolic act is carried out at the request of the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, “as a sign of support for the Ukrainian people.”
Hidalgo, of Spanish origin and Socialist Party candidate for the French presidential elections in April, participated this Thursday in a solidarity rally with the Ukrainian people in the center of Paris and ordered on Wednesday that the City Hall be illuminated with the Ukrainian flag, like other European monuments, such as the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.
