Micro theater in Bastión Popular: Pop Up opens a free space in Zumar on February 18

Two micro-rooms pop-up theater with capacity for 50 people will open from this Friday, February 18 at 16:00 at Zumar multifunctional center (Manuel Ignacio Gómez Lince and Isidro Ayora avenues), to offer free programming to the inhabitants of the Popular Bastion neighborhood. There will be an official opening ceremony at 17:00 that day.

The first plays to be performed will be The same history (Wednesday, two performances, with forum), Bolivar vs. San Martin Y Just a moment (Thursday and Friday, three performances). On Saturdays at 11:00 the children’s plays will be presented The Ant and the Grasshopper Y The magic tree and the sorceress (two functions). The repertoire will be renewed every month.

The director of the Zumar Projects Unit, Romina Zeballos, said that the proposal has taken several months of work, interrupted by the pandemic, with the purpose of “Transfer the experience of Pop Up Teatro Urdesa to the vulnerable sectors of Guayaquil”.

Pop Up Zumar has two phases. The second stage provides for the opening of a room with capacity for 150 peoplelonger format works and with the formation of Zumar’s first theater group, according to the official.

Bolivar vs. San Martin gather the actors Amar Pacheco and David Castrowhile Andres Garzon and Daniela Sanchez take to the stage Just a moment.

The same history, forum theater, exposes the situation of a woman who, tired of the abuse, says “enough”. An expert will guide the reflections after the play.

Each theatrical piece will be presented in a short format, from 20 to 30 minutes.

The mayor of Guayaquil, Cynthia Viteriexpresses that the work has been carried out together with the producers Xavier and Ricardo Velástegui (from the Pop Up brand)so that the vulnerable sectors of Guayaquil live the theater experience.

“We seek to promote the talent that we know exists in these sectors; but, in addition, that with their preparation they can be presented in our theater or in other spaces”, indicated Zeballos. “I studied art and I know that it is a powerful tool to achieve changes and transformations.” (AND)
