“We must send you a tragic message. After a sudden heart, at the age of only 39, Jagoda Murczyńska passed away. Our wonderful friend, a dear friend, with whom for almost 10 years we had the privilege to share our passion for Asian, jointly create a festival and other cultural projects. No we are able to describe the pain and regret with which we say goodbye to Jagoda. We have lost a very close person who changed us for the better, infected us with her enthusiasm, intimidating erudition, but also warmth, sensitivity and kindness “- write the representatives of the Five Flavors festival on Facebook. They informed about the death of Jagoda Murczyńska on Saturday, February 12.

Jagoda Murczyńska. Who was she?
Jagoda Murczyńska was an expert on Japanese cinema and contemporary cinematography in East and Southeast Asia. “She loved cinema and devoted herself fully to it. She believed that it was important not only because of its unique artistic and aesthetic values, but also as a window to the cultures and people of the world’s most populous continent” – we read in the entry.
Murczyńsla co-organized the annual Five Flavors festival. “She loved meeting the creators – their coming to Warsaw was always a great reward for her for a year of working on the festival,” we read.
She has also written texts on Japanese cinema in “Ekran”, “Kino” and the Dwutygodnik portal. She was awarded by the Polish Film Institute for the translation and editing of the book “Silent Explosion. New Cinema in East and South-East Asia”.
“Her essays were full of passion, and in her hands the short descriptions of the films turned into such vivid and brilliant miniatures that the viewers sometimes assessed them as more interesting than the films themselves. She had no competition in this field and everyone humbly acknowledged it” – write the representatives of the Festival Flavors on Facebook.
