Iga ¦wi ± tek finished this year’s Australian Open in the semi-finals. The Polish woman, for whom it was the best achievement in this event, lost in the 1/2 finals to the American – Danielle Collins – 4: 6, 1: 6. After nearly three weeks of break, Świątek returns to the game.
The Polish woman will take part in the Dubai Tennis Championship in the United Arab Emirates. The tournament will start on Monday and will last until February 26. Swiatek will be seeded in it with number 6. Only Aryna Sabalenka, Barbobra Krejcikova, Paula Badosa, Garbine Muguruza and Maria Sakkari have higher numbers, respectively.
Swiatek met a rival in Dubai
We already know the tournament bracket. In the first round, Świątek’s rival will be the 21st competitor of the WTA ranking – Daria Kasatnika. Both players have already played together this year. In the third round of the Australian Open, Świątek defeated the Russian woman 6: 2, 6: 3. If the Pole wins the match this time, then in the next round she will face the pair’s winner Sofia Kenin – Jelena Ostapenko.
It will be the 22nd edition of this tournament. In 2012, Agnieszka Radwańska triumphed in it. In the first round, Polka defeated Aleksandra Woźniak 6: 1, 6: 7 (6), 7: 5. In the second round, Radwanska was better than Shahar Pe’er, winning 7: 5, 6: 4.
In the quarter-finals, Sabine Lisicki did not give advice, and the match ended with the score 6: 2, 6: 1. In the semi-final, Radwańska defeated Jelena Janković 6: 2, 2: 6, 6: 0, and in the final she managed to beat Julia Goerges, winning 7: 5, 6: 4.
Radwańska was then seeded number 5, and her win in Dubai was one of her 20 singles triumphs.
