Emira D’Spain becomes the first black trans model for Victoria’s Secret

The TikTok star Emira D’Spain has made history as first African-American transgender model in associating with El Secreto de Victoria while the lingerie brand continues to renew its image after years of controversies over excluding models of various sizes and ethnicities.

The 25-year-old, known as Xoxo Emira on social networks (@xoxoemira), created a TikTok for the Valentine’s Day where she details how to celebrate February 14 as a single girl, as part of her collaboration with the brand.

“Valentine’s Day SINGLE Girl Edition with @Victoria’s Secret. The best love is self love!” she detailed in the clip, adding the hashtags #vsfeelthelove and #vspartner.

D’Spain, who born in dubaigrew up in Dallas and lives in New York City, wore a red robe from Victoria’s Secret while doing her hair and makeup at the beginning of the clip.

Then it changed to a red lace corset of the brand, which she combined with a leather skirt, stockings and christian louboutin boots black suede. She completed the sultry look with a black leather jacket and a red Hermès bag.

When he left his building, he headed to one of his favorite restaurants in New York’s trendy Tribeca neighborhood. She enjoyed a grilled cheese sandwich with fries and a cinnamon bun while reading a book.

Then D’Spain took a beautiful bouquet of red roses and explained, “I don’t need a man to buy me flowers.” She also stopped at the jewelry store William Barthman in Manhattan to treat herself to a pair of diamond earrings.

The model continued to pamper herself when she arrived home with a candlelit bubble bath, champagne and your favorite music. She finished off the night with her 20-step (yes, 20-step) skincare routine while wearing a Victoria’s Secret pajama set.

“I’m obsessed”, said about the pink pajamas with a red heart print. “Valentine’s Day can be about love, but it also includes loving yourself.”

D’Spain also used Instagram to share photos of herself wearing the red corset while talking about what it means to her to work with the brand.

“It is an honor to be the first black trans girl to work with @victoriassecret. When she was a child, she only DREAMED of being a part of Victoria’s Secret,” she wrote.

The influencer then paid tribute to Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio, who became the first transgender woman to work with Victoria’s Secret in 2019.

D’Spain added: “@valentts led the way and it’s a great honor to continue that legacy on the first day of black history month. Head over to my TikTok to stay tuned for more to come.”

The model hopes that her association with Victoria’s Secret will create more opportunities for members of the trans community.

“I want to empower young trans women and men around the world to show them that the beauty and fashion industries are changing. Especially if you are a person of color,” she said in a statement to USA Today. “I am very grateful to work with Victoria’s Secret and I hope this paves the way for others after me.”

Victoria’s Secret has been working to revamp its image and revive its business, which has faced stiff competition from new lingerie retailers with more inclusive marketing strategies targeting women of all shapes, sizes and skin tones. Rihanna’s successful Savage X Fenty lingerie line is among those brands.
