One dead, four injured in shooting near US university

At least one person died and four more were injured as a result of a shooting this morning in Blacksburg (Virginia, US East Coast), near the Virginia Tech University campus, local authorities reported this Saturday.

Blacksburg Police responded to a report of shots fired at a Blacksburg bar shortly before midnight Friday.

Arriving at the scene of the shooting, officers found five people who had been shot, including one dead.

At the moment, the authorities have not determined the causes of what happened or the person responsible.

The four injured were taken to nearby medical centers and are hospitalized, without specifying the seriousness of their situation.

The president of Virginia Tech University, Tim Sands, indicated on social networks that one of the injured is a student at the educational center.

The scene of the shooting is very close to the university campus, which in 2007 saw one of the largest recent massacres in the US when a student opened fire on fellow students, leaving a total of 32 dead.

Blacksburg is a town of more than 40,000 people located in southwestern Virginia. (I)
