the english band Gorillaz will open its 2022 tour in Uruguay, in what will be the return of the group led by Damon Albarn to the South American country, as reported this Friday by the promoter Gaucho.
The concert, which will take place on April 28 at the multifunctional venue Antel Arena, will be the first of Albarn’s group before traveling to Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro between April and May, and then jump to Europe, where they will participate in various festivals in the northern summer.
The Gorillaz recital will take place within the framework of the Spring 0 Festival, that celebrates a decade of life, and will count as invited artists with the Argentine Nathy Peluso, figure of the international alternative scene, and the Uruguayan Agus Zeballos, young reference of the local ‘freestyle’.
“Primavera 0 turns 10 and starts celebrating in the fall!”, wrote this Friday on his Twitter account Danilo Astori Sueiro, director of the Gaucho promoter and owner of the La Trastienda concert hall, one of the best known in Montevideo, who added: “Party at @antelarena.”
For the moment, confirmed Gorillaz dates in 2022 run through August, with a concert at United Kingdom, after passing through countries such as Spain, France and Denmark.
Albarn has expressed in several interviews in recent times his desire to return to Montevideo, a city in which he was greatly impressed by the Palacio Salvo, to which he dedicated his song Tower of Montevideo inside his most recent solo album, The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows.
The song, inspired by the building erected in 1928 by design by Mario Palanti and which became one of the tallest in South America at that time, talks about a ghost listening to music, something that inspired his stay in a hotel located in the same Plaza Independencia.
This is the second solo studio album by the artist who was part of Blur, the legendary ‘brit pop’ band founded in 1988 that is still alive despite several breaks in its career, and that in 1998 created Gorillaz as an alternative and virtual project together with artist Jamie Hewlett. (I)
