The Artium presents 49 works that will be shared with other museums

The Artium museum in Vitoria-Gasteiz has presented 49 works acquired with the extraordinary grant of 150,000 euros granted by the Basque Government, which are incorporated into the “shared collection” with the rest of the museums, even though they have been installed in Vitoria.

This subsidy has a triple objective: “relieve an unstable sector that has been hit hard” by the covid, “enrich and update” public heritage and “strengthen joint action” by museums and centers specializing in Basque contemporary art, as reported by the Department of Culture and Language Policy.

The Artium, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and Tabakalera have jointly decided which works by living Basque artists to acquire with this direct grant.

Finally, 49 pieces by 15 artists (7 women, 7 men and one collective) from different disciplines have been acquired, since there are paintings, photographs, sculptures, collages, videos, installations, drawings and graphic work, among other techniques.

The works acquired within this plan will be deposited in the Artium Museum and will be cataloged under the heading of “shared collection”.

This is the second time that the Basque Government has granted this extraordinary subsidy. He did it for the first time in 2020 and with the money he bought 34 works by 24 artists (14 women, 9 men and one collective) and 8 graphic edition copies.
